Cherry Creek North is the last place in Denver you would expect a free block party. This is the ritziest shopping district in the city. Boutiques, valet parking, the kind of sidewalks where you feel underdressed walking your dog.
And now they are throwing a music festival right in the middle of it. For free.
It is called Cherry Groove, and it is happening Friday and Saturday, Aug. 28 and 29, 2026, at Fillmore Plaza, 105 Fillmore St. Two days, nine local bands, food, drinks, and zero cover charge. This is the neighborhood's first-ever music festival, which is honestly a little wild when you think about how long Cherry Creek has been around.
Nick LeMasters, the President and CEO of Cherry Creek North, called it the neighborhood's "love letter to the end of summer." I like that. Because that is exactly the window this lands in. School is about to start, the mountain aspens are thinking about turning, and everyone is trying to squeeze one more good weekend out before it all goes cold.
Here is the part people miss. Fillmore Plaza is not some random parking lot they cleared out. This is the same plaza that hosts the Cherry Creek Arts Festival every year. It sits on Fillmore Street between 1st and 2nd Avenues, right in the thick of everything.
So they are taking a space that already knows how to hold a crowd and pointing it at live music instead of art booths. Smart move, if you ask me. The bones are already there.
Let me walk you through who is actually playing, because this is a real lineup and not just filler.
Friday runs 4 to 9 p.m. and it goes like this:
- Lonely Choir kicks it off at 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. - Patrick Dethlefs Band takes 5:20 to 6:20 p.m. - Sugar Britches at 6:40 to 7:40 p.m. - The Burroughs closes the night 8:00 to 9:00 p.m.
The Burroughs closing out Friday is the one to circle. If you have caught them anywhere on the Front Range, you know they bring the horns and the funk and they do not let a crowd stand still.
Saturday is the big day. Doors, so to speak, open at 11 a.m. and the music runs all the way to 8:30 p.m. Opening acts play from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., then Holdfast. hits the stage 1:20 to 2:20 p.m. After that you have got On the Dot, Silver & Gold, Marfa, and Pretty Jane rounding out the afternoon and evening.
That is a full day. You could roll in at noon, plant yourself, and not run out of reasons to stay until the sun is basically gone.
Now here is the detail that made me smile. Before any of Saturday's music starts, Yoga Box is leading a free yoga session right there on Fillmore Plaza from 10 to 11 a.m.
So the plan writes itself. Roll out your mat on the same concrete that is about to host nine bands, stretch it out, and then stick around while the whole plaza flips into a party. I mentioned this to Hayley and she is already treating it as a scheduled event, which means I am going, which means I will be the guy in the back row who cannot touch his toes.
The food side is handled by Every Little Thing, the Denver restaurant serving as the official food partner all weekend. They will be onsite both days, so you are not stuck making a beer-garden decision between a warm pretzel and going home hungry.
That matters more than people give it credit for. A free festival lives or dies on whether you can actually get a decent meal without leaving. Having a real Denver restaurant on-site the whole time changes the math.
Okay, the boring but necessary part. Cherry Creek street parking is a bloodbath on a normal Saturday, and this is not a normal Saturday. Organizers are straight up telling people to take a rideshare or use one of the nearby parking garages instead of circling for a street spot.
Take that advice. There are garages all through Cherry Creek North, and fighting for curb space between 1st and 2nd on a festival weekend is a fast way to miss The Burroughs.
Cherry Creek North is not a neighborhood that usually needs to work for foot traffic. People come here to spend money. So the fact that they are putting on a free, two-day, nine-band festival tells you something about where the district is trying to go. They want you here on a Friday night with a drink and some Colorado music, not just here at noon with a shopping bag.
For anyone watching Cherry Creek real estate, and plenty of people are, events like this are the soft stuff that makes a place sticky. A neighborhood that throws its own festival is a neighborhood betting on itself.
So mark it. Aug. 28 and 29, 2026, Fillmore Plaza. Bring a yoga mat if you are brave, bring an appetite either way, and leave the car in a garage.
